Hi! I am Stephen Menyhart, RD. I am a calm, compassionate clinician who helps adults, adolescents, and children examine their unique challenges from a different perspective. I strive to help each client meet their personal goals, while maintaining an open, creative, and light-hearted approach. What I love most about my work as a Registered Dietitian is the opportunity to help people thrive.
I work fluently with all types of eating disorders and disordered eating patterns, and am a Certified ARFID Specialist. I am also experienced in navigating other disease states concurrent with eating disorders, and embrace the opportunity to collaborate with your other health providers.
Other specialty client areas include youth and adults, and male-identifying individuals struggling with eating disorders. I especially enjoy working with neurodiverse clients and exploring how their unique perspectives shape their relationship with and experience of food. In my professional experience, men with eating disorders are often inaccurately diagnosed and overlooked, and I hope to be an understanding part of the recovery journey for those male-identifying clients.
After over a decade of work in school nutrition programs as a Registered Dietitian and liaison to families of children ages 3-18, I have experience communicating with all ages, and in dynamic interpersonal family work. I especially enjoy supporting adolescents and families as they work through health concerns, food choices, and the emotional aspects connected to food.
Prior to becoming an outpatient RD, I also spent 10+ years working in high end restaurant kitchens in Chicago and London, and have experience teaching food preparation and culinary techniques to all ages. My skill set includes guiding clients through virtual kitchen work, complementing traditional talk-based nutrition counseling. I have often found this kitchen-based work helpful with tangible client breakthroughs in their relationships with food.
I live in Boulder, Colorado with my wife and two teenagers, where we explore the great outdoors as often as possible.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
"Working with Stephen has been an incredible experience. It’s been so valuable to learn from someone with such extensive culinary knowledge and having their guidance has helped me understand proper cooking methods, and that alone has given me so much more confidence in preparing meals for myself. I especially appreciate his unique and thoughtful approach to ARFID. Instead of pushing unfamiliar foods, he has focused on helping me cook dishes I know I’ll enjoy, which has made the process feel supportive, personalized, and genuinely empowering. I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned and for the progress we’ve made together."
-Mason S, adult with ARFID
"I knew I wanted to make a positive change in my diet but was completely overwhelmed by my food safety anxieties, along with worrying about upsetting my sensitive stomach. I was nervous to admit to a dietitian not only the actual contents of my refrigerator, but also the thought process behind the food choices I was making.
It turned out that I did not need to worry because Stephen was completely nonjudgmental and compassionate regarding my food anxieties. Stephen created a collaborative and open environment during our sessions by actively listening and helping me reframe the thought patterns that had led me to this point. He gave me tools to push my boundaries in a positive way, both celebrating my wins and supporting the inevitable challenges. I now feel more confident in all stages of meal production from meal planning, to grocery shopping, cooking, and food storage."
